Visakhapatnam, also known as Vizag, has a fresh and exciting mission now. The Visakhapatnam District Entrepreneurship Mission (DEM) has been launched to help people in villages and small towns start their own businesses. It’s a team effort of the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub and the Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME), working with schools, startup groups, and local leaders to make the dream of entrepreneurship real.

This mission targets tribal communities, women, farmers, and small shop owners, who mostly don’t get enough support. Leaders from government, schools, startups, and community groups work together for this mission. They plan to develop pilot programs, share knowledge, and create solutions tailored to local needs.

This mission involves establishing focused groups for various areas, including youth, women, farming, rural life, and aquaculture (fish farming). These groups will examine the challenges in each area, test solutions, and help individuals transform their ideas into real businesses. GAME will help organize and support these efforts.

The team plans to help at least 200 local entrepreneurs during the first stages. They will also launch a campaign called “Celebrate Vizag Entrepreneurs”. This will introduce successful local role models and inspire more people to try. They’re making a detailed 2–3 year plan to measure results by looking at how many jobs are created, how many businesses grow, and how much people invest back into their community.

GAME leaders like Madan Padaki and Ketul Acharya, along with entrepreneur Ravi Eswarapu and others, said the mission has worked well in other areas and hopes to be successful here, too. They already plan to use this mission as a model across Andhra Pradesh.

According to Madan, Ketul, Ravi, Geetasrikanth, and Ram, “Over the next 15 years, around 150 million young people are anticipated to enter the workforce. Rather than depending only on the public and private sectors to produce jobs, this is the ideal moment to foster entrepreneurship. To coordinate activities, the mission brings together government, business, academia, and civil society to conduct stand-alone programs and engage local stakeholders.”

“Growth businesses, women, youth, agriculture, rural areas, and aquaculture are the main topics of thematic groups. They identify problems, create prototypes, and suggest fixes. GAME offers secretarial assistance to facilitate follow-through, coordination, and knowledge acquisition. Local leaders from government, business, academia, and finance make up the core group. It establishes the direction for the Vizag DEM, manages strategy, mobilizes resources, and guarantees accountability.”

When 150 million young Indians join the workforce in the coming 15 years, creating local entrepreneurs will help reduce pressure on cities and bring growth to villages. That’s why it’s smart to start now and support people where they live.

This mission is not meant to stay small. If it works well in Visakhapatnam, local leaders hope it can be copied in other parts of Andhra Pradesh. The goal is to make Visakhapatnam DEM a strong model in rural and grassroots entrepreneurship. By creating hands-on programs, supporting local role models, and developing a long-term action plan, the mission can shape the future of innovation growth across India.
