Shailesh Jejurikar was nominated as a director at its annual shareholder meeting in October. He will be the first CEO in the Procter & Gamble company’s 187-year history. He will be promoted to Chief Executive Officer from his current position as a Chief Operating Officer, effective January 1, 2026. This is the most recent high-profile succession of an India-born executive of a company as giant as this. P&G has also announced that Jon R. Moeller will be promoted to the position of Executive Chairman from his current position of CEO (since 2021) on the same date.
Shailesh Jejurikar is a Mumbai native, and IIM Lucknow graduate who joined P&G in 1989 with the position of Assistant Brand Manager for Personal Health Care In India. During the 36-years long career, he has succeeded in various senior roles across North America, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. His work has mostly been in Fabric and Home Care.
He was appointed as COO in 2021, becoming the first executive to receive that title in the company’s recent history. Shailesh said in a statement, “I am honored to serve as P&G’s CEO. P&G people, our brands, and our capabilities in innovation and operational excellence fuel my confidence for a future of sustained growth and value creation”.
As the company navigates an unpredictable consumer landscape, it lowered its annual core earning outlook earlier this year, pointing to shifting consumer sentiment and possible trade-related influence, especially in the American market. Shailesh Jejurikar’s promotion came amidst a wave of more Indian executives holding bigger titles in global corporations, which shows the growing significance of India in companies’ talent and market strategy.
Shailesh Jejurikar’s story tells that Education, persistence, hard work, and rather, consistent hard work always gets rewarded.
