Shashvat Nakrani, born in Bhavnagar, Gujarat was an IIT Delhi drop-out who co-founded BharatPe that completely transformed India’s payment systems. The idea helped merchants accept payments from multiple apps with 1 QR code. This idea boosted small businesses and made BharatPe a key player in digital payments. The partnership between Nakrani and Bhavik Koladiya transformed their company into a leading fintech company that reached valuation of $2.9 billion in 2021 within its brief three-year existence.
Nakrani expanded BharatPe’s operations by developing Bharat Swipe to provide merchants with card acceptance services and small business financing solutions for filling credit gaps. It was through his vision that he established the ‘12% Club’, which enables merchants to obtain credit amd find high-yield investment options through peer-to-peer lending. He expanded BharatPe’s operations to 100 cities and reaching both Tier 2 and 3 regions. His entrepreneurial spirit was quite clear when he chose innovation above job security to turn his innovative concept into reality.

Despite several rewards, the journey to this revolution was not paved with comfort. It faced several challenges that included major legal disputes and executives changes during its operation. However, facing those obstacles, Nakrani steered the company toward success and established himself as a key figure in India’s startup industry.
Today, Shashvat Nakrani has solidified his position beyond BharatPe’s success, by providing financial support to innovative startups through various industries.
