Rapido, a startup that has been offering quick, comfortable rides at doorstep has now entered the delivery space with its Ownly app. It offers a zero-commission model for restaurants to compete with Swiggy and Zomato that have been dominating the food-delivery sector.
This ride-hailing startup has started initially in a few localities like Koramangala, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout in Bengaluru. This launch happened after numerous discussions over the course of several months between Rapido and the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), which represents 50,000 eateries. Moreover, the association had already been looking for alternatives to traditional food delivery giants as the high commission charges are a major concern.
The USP of this new startup is the zero commission model, so that restaurant partners can retain more revenue from themselves. Under the agreed terms, restaurants will cover the delivery cost for orders within a 4 km radius, while customers may pay a nominal fee depending on order value. For example:-
For orders<= Rs. 100; Rs. 10 delivery cost to restaurant, Rs. 20 to customer
For orders between Rs. 101- 400; Rs. 25 delivery fee+ GST
For orders above Rs. 400; Rs. 50 delivery fee

Aravind Sanka, shared that the company’s goal is to “give value back to users” and enter new categories only when they can address market gaps. With 30 million monthly active users and 4 million monthly rides in more than 500 cities, the startup plans using its current network of bike taxi riders to fulfill food orders. It has plans to extend the Ownly service to 500 cities by the end of the year.
The existing startups are spreading their wings in other sectors with already dominating giants. This calls for a bold decision-making skills from new startup owners. This is your sign to have that courage and step into the other sectors with your own USP.
