A Dream That Began with Just ₹20,000
Back then in 1989, Vandana Luthra set up a small wellness clinic in New Delhi with just ₹20,000 in her pocket. There were very few beauty centres in India back then, but they didn’t offer anything beyond make-up and salon treatments. Vandana had a greater vision to have a centre that would bring together nutrition, beauty, fitness, and therapy all under one roof. This vision led to the birth of VLCC (Vandana Luthra Curls & Curles), which became one of India’s most well-loved wellness brands.
One Clinic to 312 Centres Globally
By the year 2025, VLCC is not just a local clinic anymore. The brand today has 312 wellness centers and is spread across 144 cities in 12 nations which includes India, the Middle East, and East Africa. Besides its wellness offerings, VLCC also operates 97 institutes of beauty and nutrition through which thousands of students are trained annually. Over 70% of the students are women, which shows that Vandana’s dream is not only about business expansion but also about empowering women.

Numbers That Speak Success
The expansion of VLCC is supported by solid financials. In the year 2022–23, the revenue of VLCC reached almost ₹958 crore, with a 22% increase compared to the previous year. In 2023–24, the company expanded by another 19% due to increased customer spending on wellness and beauty treatments. With this growth rate, VLCC is likely to reach over ₹1,100 crore by 2025–26.
This success has also drawn international investors. In 2023, private equity behemoth Carlyle made a majority investment in VLCC for approximately $300 million. Subsequently, Alpha Wave Global was ready to invest more, taking its valuation close to $600–700 million. Even after these large investments, the Luthra family retains ownership of approximately 95% of the company.
Women at the Heart of VLCC
It is not only revenue that makes VLCC unique, but also its people-first culture. They have more than 3,000 staff, out of whom 70% are women. Even managerial posts are women-dominated, where 7 out of 10 department heads and all 322 outlet managers are women. Vandana Luthra always had the vision to provide women support, so that they can not only manage families but also businesses.
Awards and Recognition That Inspire
For her work in the beauty and wellness sector, Vandana Luthra has been awarded numerous awards. In 2013, she was awarded the Padma Shri, among India’s most prominent civilian honours. She has also been featured in Forbes Asia’s 50 Power Businesswomen (2016) and Fortune India’s Most Powerful Women in Business list from 2011-2015 multiple times. These are not only testimonials to her business skills but also to the fact that she is a woman leader transforming the industry.
