HYDGEN, an Indian/Singaporean deep-tech startup, has reached a significant milestone by dispatching its first indigenously engineered 5 kW PEM electrolyser to a lab-grown diamond factory located in Surat, Gujarat. The product provides 1N m3 of Hydrogen per hour at >99.9995% purity. It is custom-built to meet the strict specifications of the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) process used to create lab-grown diamonds.
After years of research and testing, HYDGEN has commercially deployed its green hydrogen technology via an electrolyser. The Electrolyser was fully developed, manufactured, and tested in India, demonstrating the startup’s leadership in India’s hydrogen ecosystem and supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative.

India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to make the country a global hub for hydrogen production and export by 2030. HYDGEN’s successful deployment of high-efficiency electrolysis technology will help reduce the need to import hydrogen systems from other countries and bring this technology within reach of Indian industries.
Reports from the green hydrogen industry indicate that it has been an essential component of many clean manufacturing processes, particularly in the production of steel, cement, chemicals, and lab-grown diamonds. The Surat Diamond Sector has been among the first to adopt this technology to produce sustainably. The use of locally produced hydrogen systems will improve operational efficiency and reduce overall emissions from the production chain.
HYDGEN’s Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) based Electrolyser is designed to provide high-purity hydrogen, a compact design, and low-maintenance operation. The company’s engineers have designed the System in Mangaluru, which underwent rigorous quality and performance testing before being shipped to Surat. The deployment marks an important milestone from Prototype to market-ready solutions and represents a critical step for cleantech Startups in India in the green hydrogen sector.

HYDGEN has earned praise from both government officials and industry experts for its role in promoting innovation at the local level, which is driving the industrial transition. The company’s growth also shows how startups can help achieve India’s clean energy goals by supplying industries with clean energy alternatives.
With global demand for green hydrogen technologies expected to grow significantly, HYDGEN is poised to increase production and deliver its systems to a broader range of industries, including semiconductors, precision manufacturing, and renewable energy. This will also position India as an emerging exporter of hydrogen systems over the next decade.
This development is a prime example of how innovation in sustainability and deep-tech entrepreneurialism can drive transformative changes in industrial processes.
