When Chakr Innovation was set up in 2016 by IIT Delhi alumni, the plan was clear which was to tackle India’s fast-declining pollution problem with indigenous, science-backed solutions. Almost a decade on, that vision has grown into a deep tech firm at the cutting edge of emission management and clean energy. And now, having raised $23 million in its Series C round, the startup is ready to scale larger than ever before. Iron Pillar led the round, which was also participated in by SBI Capital Ventures’ Neev Fund II, ONGC, Indian Angel Network (IAN), and Inflexor Ventures, with Ambit Private Limited serving as the exclusive advisor.
From IIT Delhi Labs to Industry Floors
The first breakthrough came with Chakr Shield, India’s first certified Retrofit Emission Control Device (RECD) for diesel generators. The technology removes more than 80% of particulate matter, presenting industries with a viable means to reduce pollution. Chakr eventually diversified into dual fuel kits that enable generators to operate using a diesel gas blend, DeNOx systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, and IoT-based monitoring platforms to monitor generator performance. Currently, the firm has manufacturing units in Gurugram and Pune, has over 450 employees, including 200+ scientists and engineers, and has filed 42 patents in emission control and material science technology.

A Funding Round with Global Ambitions
The $23 million investment is made when India is under pressure to harmonize energy requirements and sustainability. For Chakr Innovation, the money will go towards scaling up production capacity, enhancing backward integration through domestic production of key materials, and establishing a specialized materials science centre. Another area of high focus will be alternative energy storage systems, and aluminium-air batteries in particular, which may be made indigenous competitors to lithium-ion technology. This locates Chakr not only as a clean-tech company, but as a materials science leader intent on weaning India off imported energy technologies.
Making a Measurable Impact
Until now, Chakr Innovation has registered over 5,000 installations and has created a customer base spanning over 2,000 organizations. As per company statistics, its technologies have already prevented 2.5 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions. With cumulative funding now exceeding $30 million, the startup has established itself as one of India’s best deep-tech wagers in the climate-tech ecosystem.

The Big Picture
The success of Chakr Innovation demonstrates how Indian startups are joining the global conversation around climate solutions. That the company started as a dorm room prototype at IIT Delhi to a national-deployment, internationally ambitious company is a reflection of the confidence of investors as well as market demand. Scaling deep-tech hardware is never a cakewalk — the hurdles of costs, regulation, and competition overseas remain. But with its robust IP portfolio, increasing installations, and capital from big-league backers, Chakr Innovation looks to propel Indian clean-tech into the spotlight of the world.
The new funding round is more than capital; it’s validation that India has the capability to design technologies that can change the course of clean energy and emissions management futures. For Chakr Innovation, the ambition to create world-class solutions from India is gaining momentum.
